Advanced Peptides UK wanted buyers to be able to check a product against the batch it came from, so I built them a WordPress plugin. Every label carries a code, or a QR that fills it in, and the site shows the batch, expiry, status and certificate on record. It confirms a match and says nothing about quality or safety. The team loads codes from a spreadsheet and can flag a recalled batch the moment they need to.
What they asked for
- Let a customer check the code on a product label against the batch record held on the site.
- Keep every message factual and research-use-only, with no safety, quality or medical claim.
- Make it quick for the team to load codes in bulk and attach each batch's certificate.
- Keep all of it on the client's own hosting, with no outside services.
What it does
- Lookup by typed code or scanned QR
- A certificate PDF per batch, view or save
- Recall and expiry messages set per batch
- CSV import and export, with a link per code
- A check count and first check date per code
How it was built
- A self-contained WordPress plugin with its own database table, no third-party services and no Composer or npm dependencies.
- Lookups run in the background against a rate-limited public endpoint that needs no page nonce, so the form keeps working when the page is served from cache.
- Codes are normalised the same way whether typed, scanned or imported, so a code matches however it is entered.
- Admin screens are capability- and nonce-checked, and all dynamic SQL goes through prepared statements.
