Sharon set up Digital You to help North East councils, NHS teams, housing associations and charities make sure nobody gets left behind online. The site backs up funding bids, so accuracy mattered more than being clever: anything I couldn't verify went back to her instead of onto the page. Twelve pages in plain language, an accessibility statement that admits its limits, and cookie consent that holds up in a public sector setting.
What they asked for
- Give a brand-new CIC a professional, credible website it can point funders and partners to with confidence.
- Explain digital inclusion work clearly for an audience that may have low digital confidence itself.
- Cover who they are, what they do and what they stand for, with the safeguarding, complaints and equality policies published alongside.
- Keep the site accessible throughout, with keyboard-friendly navigation and a dedicated accessibility layer.
- Keep every claim on the site accurate and verifiable, because inaccurate copy in a grant-application context is a real problem, not just a polish issue.
What came out of it
- A content accuracy audit completed during the build, with flagged items returned to the client for confirmation rather than published as assumptions.
- An accessibility statement that aims at WCAG 2.2 AA and says plainly what was tested, what was not, and where the site still falls short.
- A monthly care plan, so the site stays looked after.
How it was built
- A 12-page WordPress site on the Hello Elementor theme with Elementor Pro, plus an insights blog.
- Pages authored via scripts that write Elementor layout data, keeping the whole build under proper version control rather than relying on a visual editor alone.
- Per-page styling scoped in mu-plugins, so the site can be maintained and extended without risk of unintended style changes elsewhere.
- Consent mode checked in an automated browser across fresh, declined and accepted sessions, with analytics cookies appearing only after a yes.
- Organisation structured data carrying the CIC registration number and the areas it serves.
